Updated July 2022 The ACCSC and our member organizations host a number of events, activities and workshops throughout the year. Here’s What’s Being Planned Right Now! There’s a whole lot of exciting programs we’re working on right now and we can’t wait to bring them to you! Here’s a preview of what’s coming. Our inaugural Pecha Kucha event will feature stories and presentations from some 8 members of our community and will be held Friday September 23 at the AJ Ottewell Community Centre (The Red Barn) 590 Broadmoor Blvd. What is Pecha Kucha? The PechaKucha 20x20 presentation format is a slide show of 20 images, each auto-advancing after 20 seconds. It’s non-stop and presenters have got just 400 seconds to tell their story. PechaKucha was created in Japan in 2003 by renowned architects, Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham. The word “PechaKucha” is Japanese for “chit chat.” Pecha Kucha has flourished in popularity over the last few decades. There are now over 1200 cities around the world that host Pecha Kucha Nights. Head over here for more information on Pecha Kucha and examples of Pecha Kucha presentations. What is a Pecha Kucha Night? Pecha Kucha rapidly expanded from a presentation style to an event. Topics range from holiday photos to social messages, People globally are drawn to the idea for its creativity and inclusivity. A Pecha Kucha night is fun, informative, social, casual and very addictive! There’s nothing formal or stuffy about this night out! Admission is by donation (suggested donation at the door is $5+). Doors will open at 6.30pm, presentations will start at 7.20pm and the evening should wrap up by 9.30 at the latest. There's a bar (beer, wine, and free soft drinks), free munchies and plenty of free parking. So spread the word and encourage everyone you know to head out to the Red Barn for a great (and very affordable) evening of learning, socialization and good times.
